A Salem Summertime tradition returns tonight, as what started out as a one-time fundraiser to help someone in need has become an annual gathering not to be missed.

(SALEM) - Organizers of The Night of Fire say the event gets bigger every year and expect Friday night`s to be one of the biggest to date.

The formula is simple, mix street roads with the thunder of drag racing cars, add in venders and kids activities, and what you get is an evening of good, clean fun, and the making of great memories.

This year The Night of Fire will take place on the Morningstar Church grounds. `Morningstar Church is our best venue yet," comments Mike Adams, who has helped coordinate the event since the beginning five years ago. `It's bigger than the shopping centers we have used in the past and the grassy park like setting makes this a more enjoyable environment. Plus there is plenty of parking for everyone. We`re working hard to bring in the top local drag racing cars, street rods, venders, prizes, and activities that have made our shows so unique."

It`s not just a car show though, every year a benefactor for the money raised is selected. This year it`s a baby boy named Joshua.

Katrina Adams explains, `Joshua was born with numerous health problems and at his young age of 5 months old, he`s already gone through five surgeries with more to come. His mother is a Salem woman, and was actually an employee of Adam`s Ribs prior to having the baby. No one could have seen this coming though. Even with insurance, she has hundreds of thousands of dollars to pay on her own."

The good news is the outlook for the child is good, but will continue to suffer with some long-term problems.

Morningstar Church is located just off I-5 at the Kuebler Blvd exit (252) in South Salem. The event officially kicks off at 4:00 PM. Admission is free for spectators. Car registrations are $5.00 or $20.00 which includes a t-shirt. The entry fee for exhibitor is payable at the gate.
