The Marion County Sheriff's Office is inviting north Marion County farm owners to attend a meeting on Tuesday to discuss the recent theft of metal from farm fields in the area.

The Sheriff's office would like to brainstorm with area farmers and come up with solutions to help deter or apprehend the subjects involved.

Present at the meeting will be representatives from patrol to detectives who are currently working this area.

Others in the area who have been a victim of a theft within the last six months are also invited to attend.

Those attending who have been victims of a theft in the area but have not yet made a report will be able to do so at the meeting.

The meeting will begin at 6:00 PM and will be held at the Marion County Sheriff's North District Office located at 13357 Highway 99E, in Gervais.

West Oregon, South Cascade and Western Lane districts will enter fire season on Monday.

The three districts encompass forestlands in Linn, Lane, Benton, Polk and Yamhill counties.

Predicted hot, dry weather is expected to dry out the forest and elevate the risk of wildfire. The declaration of fire season places restrictions on timber harvest activities in the forest. Loggers will be required to have firefighting equipment at their operation sites

While no restrictions are being placed on recreational activity at this time, the public is asked to be mindful of fire safety in the forest. In particular, use of fireworks can result in large financial liability if a wildfire results.

The Oregon State Fairgrounds is turning silver, as an estimated 12-hundred Airstream trailers and RV`s from across the U.S., Mexico, and Canada converge on the fairgrounds for the 49th Annual Wally Byam Caravan Club International Rally.

The `Silver City" features a post office, water and disposal services and activities for attendees.

Although the rally is private, a public open house event will take place on June 30th, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Organizers said the weeklong event should pump about $3 million dollars into the Salem-area economy.
