(KEIZER, Ore. ) - The Salem-Keizer Volcanoes went through just one team practice entering Thursday night's preseason contest against the College All-Stars. That one practice was all they needed.

The offense pounded out 16 runs on 17 hits, and Jason Forjet tossed four shutout innings as the Volcanoes defeated the College All-Star team 16-3 at Volcanoes Stadium.

"They did what we expected them to do. They came out, they were patient and they weren't chasing a lot of pitches," manager Gary Davenport said. "They were seven for 10 with runners in scoring position, so they did a good job tonight."

The Volcanoes scored in the first inning without recording a hit, when Christian Arroyo walked and scored on a series of wild pitches by Aaron Landecker.

After a second consecutive scoreless inning by Jason Forjet in the top half of the second, the Volcanoes erupted for seven runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Leo Rojas led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second on an infield single by Travious Relaford. After a one-out walk loaded the bases, Tyler Hollick delivered a two-RBI single to right field, extending the lead to 3-0.

Arroyo put the game out of reach just two batters later. With the bases loaded, the 2013 first round selection laced a bases clearing double to the right-center field gap to push the advantage to 5-0.

"To get out there and use the whole field, that's kind of my approach as a hitter," Arroyo said. "Now that I'm doing that I'm feeling a lot better and I'm happy that it's paying off and working on the field as well."

In total, the Volcanoes sent 14 batters to the plate in the second inning, scoring seven runs on four hits. "It's good to see some live arms, play under the lights and put up some runs. It's a confidence booster," Arroyo said of the team's offensive production.

That proved to be more than enough run support for Forjet. The right hander allowed just a single hit and struck out two, while inducing eight ground ball outs.

"I was just trying to throw strikes early and keep my pitch count low. My defense really worked well behind me," Forjet said. "Whenever you have a lead pitching it always relaxes you. You don't have to throw as many stressful pitches, so it helps."

The Volcanoes' offense refused to let up. An RBI triple by Ryan Jones and a home run by Shilo McCall gave Salem-Keizer a 10-1 lead.

That advantage only grew wider, as the Volcanoes notched seven consecutive two-out hits in the seventh inning, including a two run homer by Fernando Pujadas, en route to a 16-3 victory.

Arroyo led the offense, finishing 2-5 with four RBIs and three runs scored in his first game as a Volcanoes player.

After being named a 2013 Northwest League All-Star, outfielder Tyler Hollick picked up right where he left off. He finished with four hits and two RBIs.

Up next: The Volcanoes look to keep their offense rolling as they open up Northwest League Action on Friday, June 13 against the three time defending champion Vancouver Canadians. Andrew Leenhouts gets the nod as the opening day starter for Salem-Keizer after winning a league-high nine games in 2013. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m., with the gates opening at 5:00 p.m.
