(KEIZER, Ore.) - Police in Keizer say a 27-year old man was severely injured Friday while riding a 2008 Yamaha 700R ATV east on Appleblossom Drive Northeast.

Sgt. Andrew Copeland with Keizer Police says Rene Rubio was approaching the corner of Appleblossom and Potts Drive when he was unable to negotiate the turn correctly and traveled off the road.

"Mr. Rubio was thrown from the ATV into a parked vehicle where he suffered substantial injury."

He says Mr. Rubio was taken to Salem Memorial Hospital via ambulance. There were no other persons injured in the accident.

Copeland told Salem-News.com today that it is always unfortunate when a person is injured in a situation like this one.

"We are just hoping he can recover, he was definitely hurt when he was transported from the scene."

Salem Hospital Spokesman Dave Garrett says Mr. Rubio is currently in critical in the facility's Intensive Care Unit.

Copeland says Mr. Rubio's family has been notified and is accompanying him at this time. Keizer Police will issue more information as it becomes available.
