(EUGENE. Ore. ) - Outside linebacker Eddie Heard of Laney College in Oakland, Calif., has signed a financial aid agreement to play at Oregon.

The Ducks announced Heard’s signing Friday via the @OregonGridiron Twitter account. Heard, who plans to be on campus for summer classes, has four years in which to play three at Oregon.

Listed as a defensive end for Laney, Heard had four sacks among his seven tackles for loss in 11 games as a freshman last fall. Heard, 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds, returned fumbles for touchdowns in back-to-back games at midseason, and also broke up three passes.

Oregon is looking to replace departed starting outside linebacker Boseko Lokombo in 2014, and the projected starter on the other side of the defense is a senior, Tony Washington. Heard will enter the mix for playing time with veterans such as Tyson Coleman, Christian French, Torrodney Prevot and Oshay Dunmore.

A high school quarterback, Heard also pitched for his high school and junior college baseball teams.
