Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Western Oregon

This Warning is for: South Willamette Valley, Northern Oregon Cascade Foothill, Northern Oregon Cascades (Oregon)

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - The National Weather Service in Portland has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Northeastern Benton County, West Central Linn County until 4:00 p.m.

At 3:09 p.m. a weather spotter reported estimated 70 mph winds near Shedd, Oregon. A severe thunderstorm capable of producing damaging winds in excess of 60 mph and penny to quarter-size hail was located near Shedd, which is 10 miles south of Albany.

This storm was reportedly moving northwest at 20 mph toward Corvallis.

The severe thunderstorm is expected to be near Tangent, Corvallis, Philomath, Lewisburg, Adair Village, and Wren.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS

This is a dangerous storm. If you are in its path, prepare immediately for damaging winds, destructive hail and deadly cloud to ground lightning.

People outside should move to a shelter, preferably inside a strong building but away from windows.

In addition to large hail and damaging winds, continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately.

Lightning is one of nature's number one killers.

Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.

A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 9:00 pm for Northwestern Oregon.
