(MILWAUKIE, Ore.) - Milwaukie Police officers responded to the Northridge Condos at 12600 SE Freeman Way June 2, 2009 at 4:24 p.m. A subject was reported to be bleeding and armed with a knife.

The two Milwaukie officers responded to the scene and report that they were confronted by a subject armed with a knife in the parking lot.

"When orders to drop the weapon were ignored, officers were forced to take action. The subject was ultimately shot and died at the scene," Police Spokesman Kevin Krebs said.

The subject has been identified as 22-year old Jesse Aaron Weatherford of Milwaukie. According to the Clackamas County Medical Examiner report, his death has been ruled a suicide.

The officers involved in the shooting were Sgt. Tom Broomfield, a 15-year veteran of the department and Officer Luke Strait, a 14-year veteran of the department. Both are currently on paid administrative leave, Krebs said.

He added, "The case is being investigated by the Clackamas County Inter Agency Major Crimes Team. The Milwaukie Police are cooperating with the investigation and are awaiting the Grand Jury's review."

I was talking to my Dad about this a few days ago. He told me it sounded like the man wanted to die. When cops tell you to drop a weapon and are pointing loaded guns at you, they aren't kidding.

Police cannot investigate themselves. This is becoming increasingly obvious here in Canada.
