Salem Police Conduct Prostitution Sting

Salem-News.com

(SALEM) - Several arrests were made as Salem Police conducted a prostitution sting in the Highland neighborhood on Tuesday, using two female officers as decoys. Before it was over, nine individuals were charged after allegedly soliciting prostitution.

Is this a surprise to residents? It shouldn't be too much of one. The last such operation involving Salem Police involved hookers who were advertising their services on Craigs List out of Portland.

The local joke is that they don't have to go to Portland any more, as craigslist has now added Salem, Oregon as one of their custom sites.

Sgt Jeff Barnes with the department's community response section, says 9 "Johns" were arrested during the operation. Barnes says they launched the operation in response to citizen complaints of Prostitution.

I regret that this is still on the internet. The charges were dropped. This happened during a time in my life I was going through a divorce and my mind was not in the right place. I now am happily married and have no desires of this kind. I am vey sorry this ever happened. Now because of technology I live with this the rest of my life.

Editor:  I have to go out for the next 24 hours or so, but I will work with you, at this point I have removed the names from the story, we do not exist to cause ongoing harm to people.

Legalize prostitution for these reasons: 1. It will keep our children safer as in keeping perverts out of school yards. 2. It will unburden many wives. 3. Creates revenue for the state in taxes and keeps most prostitutes off welfare.

Riviera, What Albert Marnell is saying is that once prostitution is legal, the women and men will be protected by law and the police. Prostitutes will not have to worry about being beaten or having forced risky sex. They can go to the police or even get a lawyer. They would be checked regularly for disease and carry an I.D. card. This is not new, many European countries have been doing this for almost 100 years. On a separate note I know women who are beaten by their husbands and are forced to have sex with them that is unwanted and feel that their husbands have become strangers. Once you legalize it there are no pimps to worry about.

Riviera July 28, 2006 12:49 pm (Pacific time)

The only problem, Albert, is that most prostituted women and children die from suicide, drug addictions, and pimp and john violence. I know several street whores who would gladly marry any man who wouldn't beat them or force them to have risky and unwanted sex with strange men.

Albert Marnell July 28, 2006 1:28 am (Pacific time)

A marriage contract of convenience for social, political or economic advantage rather than mutual affection is no different than street prostitution. Either legalize prostitution as an occupation; regulate it, tax it and so forth or prosecute anyone who marrys for anything other than mutual affection. The only problem is that upon close observation most married couples would wind up in jail.
