(SALEM) - Governor Kulongoski has ordered all flags at public institutions to be flown at half-staff on Thursday, in memory of Army Staff Sergeant Jason M. Evey formally of Corvallis. The Governor also ordered flags at public institutions to be flown at half-staff on Friday, in memory of Marine Captain Christopher T. Pate. SSgt Evey was assigned to the Army’s 1st Squadron, 10th Calvary Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat team of Fort Hood, Texas. Evey was 29 when he died on July 16th, 2006, in Baghdad, Iraq. Evey’s “home of record” is Stockton, California, but he attended schools in Oregon and graduated from Corvallis High School. Captain Pate was assigned to the 2nd Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company, Command Element, II Marine Expeditionary Force of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Pate was 29 when he died on July 21, 2006, near Anbar Province, Iraq. Pate grew up in Oregon and attended Aloha High School and Oregon Episcopal School. “Each time we lose a member of our armed forces, we remember the high price these men and women pay to keep our nation strong,” the Governor said. “On behalf of all Oregonians, I humbly pay tribute to Marine Captain Christopher T. Pate and Army Staff Sergeant Jason M. Evey.
