Intrepid Reporter Helen Thomas Checks Out at Age 92

America says goodbye to one of its longest standing reporters.

(WASHINGTON DC) - It truly is the end of an era, legendary reporter Helen Thomas has died at the age of 92. Her last memorable act was telling a rabbi that Israel exists on land that belongs to other people. That single remark fried the career of a woman whose reportage spanned ten US presidents.

Helen Thomas began covering events at the White House during the Kennedy administration. She passed away Saturday at the age of 92, according to the Gridiron Club, which sent out an email to members on Saturday.

"Thomas served for 57 years at United Press International, first as a correspondent, then as a White House bureau chief. She was the first woman to join the White House Correspondents’ Association, and the first woman to serve as its president. She was also the first female member of the Gridiron Club, Washington’s historic press group."

    Helen Thomas was born on August 4, 1920, in Winchester, Kentucky. She became the first female member of the White House press corps during the John F. Kennedy administration and covered 10 presidents over five decades. She was the United Press International’s first female White House bureau chief and the first female member of Washington's historic press group, the Gridiron Club. Late on posting for this article, I should have done it sooner, but I think Helen was more a journalist than most. I dont know everything abut her, but I know enough to say, "at least she asked the important questions instead of being a puppet to the teleprompter". My sympathies to her family. Hope some will take up the space she left.
