Double Fatal Crash on Hwy 47 Near Vernonia

Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into Wednesday afternoon's tragic crash.

(VERNONIA, Ore.) - Two people died Wednesday afternoon in a near head-on crash. According to OSP, two Ford F-150 pickups were fully engulfed in fire when troopers arrived at the scene Wednesday afternoon.

One of the pickups came to an uncontrolled rest in the southbound lane and the other came to an uncontrolled rest on the southbound shoulder.

OSP troopers responded to the two vehicle crash on Highway 47 near milepost 69 at 3:23 p.m. Both drivers were determined to have sustained fatal injuries from the crash. There were no passengers in either pickup.

It is possible that some bystanders stopped at the crash and left prior to the arrival of emergency responders and troopers.

It is requested that any possible witnesses or bystanders that stopped at the crash scene before emergency responders arrived contact the Oregon State Police Dispatch Center at 503-375-3555. Trooper Billy Bush from Saint Helens Worksite is the lead investigator for the crash.

Highway 47 is currently closed near the crash scene and ODOT has a detour set up. Check TripCheck.com for detour routes and closure updates.
