(CLEVELAND) - Ford Motor Company is an American icon and there is no name more closely associated with the automotive age of America that took place in the early 1900's. It wasn't the first car, but the Model T was the first mass-produced automobile and few people realize that of all cars ever produced, no model ever sold more than the Model T, which was also known as the 'Tin Lizzie' (Think rock band Thin Lizzie- now you know where that name came from!) The company that started it all is a shining star today among the remaining U.S. auto manufacturers and more people need to realize this when they make that decision to drop their hard-earned money on a new car, really. Chevrolet and Dodge both took the federal money- bailout money from the U.S. taxpayer, Ford did not hold its hand out for this one, they could have followed suit. Ford said they didn't need it, they should be recognized for this and rewarded by the consumer who connects these dots. Ford has had a couple of slumps in history like all car companies, but their new models are cutting-edge, they are smart and efficient and worth taking a look at next time you're ready to climb into something new. FoMoCo Two of the big three, GM and Chrysler took bail out money, Fantastic high mileage Focus, popular Fusion midsize sedan, Now, where does the Escape rank amongst mid-size SUV’s? Ok, you can purchase a Silverado or shell out pesos for a Ram, It is obvious Ford did their homework then they passed the test, Saw a picture of a 2013, immediately though Bimmer or Benz, By Luke Easter _____________________________________________
Luke Easter is a poet who writes about things that are very close to the heart of Salem-News.com. Another former U.S. Marine, Luke heals the world with an approach that reaches people on a different level, one known for centuries, yet too often forgotten in the one we live in. We live in a world of social & economic injustice. The main reason for founding America in the first place was to relieve the oppression of the King of England. Patrick Henry said it best, “give me liberty or give me death.” And yet, all too often death seems to be the only way out. Why is there such a high suicide rate especially among teens, in the land of the free & the home of the brave? What makes headlines? Good news? Ha! More depressing stories than anything else. I feel poetry takes an edge off the hurt of bad news while still delivering it but in a, “glitzy” sort of way. Giving a different perspective. Kind of like slap in the face as opposed to a knife in the back. At least with the slap you’ll live to see another day and you will know whom it’s from. I wasn’t here for the beginning of the world but at 59, I just might be here for the end. Even though it’s still a knife, rhyme poetry helps to dull the blade. And that’s my job.
