(SALEM) - With tax season now here, the Oregon Department of Revenue reminds taxpayers who have moved to notify the department of their new address. “We're getting close to mailing out paper tax forms and instructions. If we have current addresses to send them to, it saves taxpayers a lot of frustration,” said Joan Linn, Tax Services Manager. “If taxpayers don't let us know their new address, or leave a forwarding address with the post office, they may not get the tax forms they need.” She said this is especially important for people who do not file electronically, do not have internet access, or who cannot get to a library or Revenue office to pick up forms. Linn encourages taxpayers to update their addresses any time they move or make a change. “We send refunds, notices, tax booklets, and other information all year.” Notifying the department now of your new address also will help you get your refund check next year. Linn said thousands of refund checks are returned every year because of incorrect mailing addresses. Linn discourages people from e-mailing their change-of-address information because of the unsecure nature of e-mail. “People should never e-mail their Social Security numbers anywhere-for any reason,” Linn said. Change-of-address forms are available online at www.oregon.gov/DOR/PERTAX/faq address.shtml You must print and mail the form. You may also change your address by calling (503) 378-4988 (Salem or out of state), or toll-free from an Oregon prefix, (800) 356-4222 (Spanish and English). Salem-area Spanish speakers may call (503) 945-8618. For TTY (hearing or speech impaired), call (800) 886-7204; Salem, (503) 945-8617.
