(GRANTS PASS, Ore.) - A 49-year old man was critically injured Thursday night when he was struck while walking a dog on Highway 238 south of Grants Pass. According to Oregon State Police Senior Trooper Scott Holsworth, last night at approximately 7:15 PM OSP troopers and local emergency personnel were notified of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle on Highway 238 near milepost 9. About ten minutes earlier it was reported that a man was walking with a dog down the middle of Highway 238 near the 7100 block. Shortly after the original call, the reported injury crash occurred involving a 2004 Ford F350 pickup driven by 32-year old Stacey Fradd of Williams, that was eastbound when it encountered the pedestrian identified as 49-year old Daniel Glenn Gutierrez. Fradd stated she tried to avoid the man by swerving to the left at about the same time he also ran toward the westbound lane where he was struck by the pickup. Gutierrez was seriously injured and transported by ambulance to Three Rivers Community Hospital where he is reportedly in critical condition Friday morning. Address Information indicates Gutierrez has lived in both Grants Pass and Seattle. The dog was taken to Pacific Veterinary Clinic and reportedly had minor injuries related to the incident. Clinic staff does not think it was struck by the pickup. Fradd was not injured. Oregon State Police troopers from the Grants Pass office are continuing the investigation. Local emergency personnel responded and assisted at the scene. No other information available at this time.
