Albany Woman Dies After Being Struck by Car

The Oregon State Police Albany Area Command is continuing the investigation.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Police say a female pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and killed Friday night on Highway 34 just of east of Interstate 5.

Lieutenant Mark Cotter with Oregon State Police says last night at approximately 10:25 p.m., the woman and two companions had stopped their vehicle on the eastbound shoulder of Highway 34 near milepost 11.

They were attempting to locate some property that had fallen from their vehicle.

The female, 23-year old Angela Sue Trickel of Albany, was crossing the roadway toward the north side of the highway and was struck in the westbound traffic lanes by a 1986 Dodge Caravan, driven by 61-year old Ruth Ann Wood of Albany.

Ms. Trickel was deceased at the scene. Wood was not injured.

The Oregon State Police Albany Area Command is continuing the investigation.

Troopers on the scene were assisted by the Linn County Sheriff's Office, the Oregon Department of Transportation, and the Tangent Fire Department.

The westbound lanes of Highway 34 were closed for approximately 2 1/2 hours, as Oregon Highway crews directed traffic through the scene.
