(EATONVILLE, Wash.) - Two deputies were ambushed Monday in a community still reeling from the loss of four police officers in a recent deadly shooting; Pierce County, Washington officials report that two of their deputies responding to a report of an unwanted guest in a home in the Eatonville area were shot. Officials there say it happened at approximately 8:48 p.m. "The initial call for assistance came from a man who was fighting with his brother. The officers were invited into the house. One of the occupants went upstairs, armed himself, and fired shots at the deputies from upstairs. Both deputies were seriously wounded, but managed to return fire, killing the suspect." One deputy was airlifted to Harborview, and the other was transported by ground to Madigan, after being diverted from Tacoma General. Conditions of both of the deputies are unknown at this time. The Pierce County Department of Emergency Management is mobilizing resources to support the investigation. They say they have identified the man who was killed in the exchange of gunfire. He is identified as David E. Crable. Crable was killed after shooting at the deputies. Local officials say the Pierce County Emergency Operations Center has been opened to support the officer-involved shooting. Law enforcement agencies from across the county responded to the report of the officer involved shooting.
