Police Investigate Fatal Crash on I-84

Oregon State Police troopers from the La Grande Area Command office are continuing the investigation.

(LA GRANDE, Ore.) - Police say an Eagle, Idaho man died Saturday morning on Interstate 84 about ten miles east of La Grande when his pickup drove onto the shoulder of the freeway and crashed into an unoccupied tow truck assisting another motorist involved in an earlier traffic crash.

Oregon State Police Senior Trooper Ryan Moorehead says that around 11:15 AM, a 1998 Dodge pickup driven by 44-year old John A. Sears of Eagle, Idaho, was eastbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 270 in the left lane.

The pickup traveled from the left across to the right onto the shoulder and crashed into an unoccupied parked tow truck. The tow truck was assisting another motorist involved in an earlier crash.

Mr. Sears was pronounced deceased at the scene. Safety restraint use information is not available.

Oregon State Police troopers from the La Grande Area Command office are continuing the investigation. ODOT and local emergency responders assisted at the scene. No other information or photographs available at this time.
