(SALEM, Ore. ) - The National Weather Service in Portland has issued a Flood Watch for portions of Northwest Oregon and Southwest Washington through Wednesday morning. That includes the central and southern Willamette Valley.

A powerful storm system will bring heavy rains to the entire state. One strong low is now affecting the Oregon Coast and the Willamette Valley with powerful winds and heavy rains. Another powerful storm will follow tomorrow.

There will be a brief pause in the heavy rain later tonight between systems. Monday's storm has origins in the subtropics of the mid-Pacific and carries very high precipitable water values.

Rainfall totals of 4 to 8 inches are expected in the coast range, and in coastal cities. 5 to 7 inches is expected in the Oregon Cascades and Cascade foothills. The Willamette Valley is expected to see between 1 to 3 inches of rain.

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts.
