Oregon National Guard Sergeant Earl D. Werner Dies in Iraq

He is survived by his wife Casey and son Charles, age 19 of the Amboy, Washington area.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - The Oregon National Guard reports that 38-year old Sergeant Earl D. Werner‏ Died in Rashid, Iraq August 28th, 2009 when his convoy was struck by an explosive formed penetrator and was serving with the 41st Special Troops Battalion, 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team.

Sgt. Werner was on his third deployment with the Oregon National Guard. His first deployment was as part of the 2nd Battalion, 162 Infantry in 2004.

Later he deployed with the 234th Engineer Company in 2007 before transferring to the 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team for deployment.

During his time with the Oregon National Guard, Werner was awarded the Bronze Star, two Army Commendation Medals and the Combat Action Badge.

He is survived by his wife Casey and son Charles, age 19 of the Amboy, Washington area.

The Battalion Commander, Lt. Col. Ken Nygren stated in a message from Iraq, "All the STB leadership were present to support our soldiers at the ramp ceremony in Iraq. It was a sad event, but very evident that the unit is very cohesive and still very proudly STB. They are serving Oregon and the nation well."

I deployed with Earl. He was a good man, alway a calm voice when you needed it.

If he truly did molest children, that he scarred for the rest of their life....how dare you ignorant "so-called" Christian Conservatives...say "Let him rest in peace even if he did hurt others"...The fact is, if a pedophile touched your innocent child in harm, you would be front row watching the execution, if you had the opportunity! But if he was innocent of the child molester accusation, he still chose government over GOD.."Thou shalt not kill" And so all you selfish asses who are shitting animals in the toilet know, that commandment does not have parenthesis next to it stating (accept for the animals). And if the accusations are false out of spite due to a bitter ex-wife, well shame on you too...I would like to see a copy of the deposition....btw he's not that good looking, guessing he looks worse now that he is dead.

It's been just about 2 1/2 yrs since we all lost Earl, and still sometimes I wish I could spend some time with him. But I can't! It is my hope that he had a Conversion experance before he died! I am hoping spend alot of eternity with him, but the God of Heaven is not only Judge, He's his defense Attorney, what a GREAT combination! He will do what is in Earl's best intrest, and Happyness, I'm Navy MARS operator, Homeland Security Volunteer, and Lay Evangelist myself, and pray for the safty of our troops regularly.

wow, seems people do have more than one "said??" face. People should pick and choose their battles. is this a good place? I guess it depends on the person and the battle. There must be a muzzie or two on here for this little bit about steal and kill? The U.S. does not need to steal from anyone, as far as the killing, just don't give us an excuse and you will remain sieve-free.

Editor, Cowgirlsoldier and anyone else that would like to defend Earl Delmer Werner... I just found this site, just learned that Earl died, just read the posts... Do any of you people find it interesting that it is his family that are trying to get people to admit the truth? When a man's family it trying to tell you something you should listen! I didn't know that Earl joined the Guard. I didn't think that he would be able to join the Guard after being busted for going AWOL from the Army and getting kicked out after spending some time in jail. However to the wonderful person that allowed him to join the Guard, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart! Myself and all of the other mothers of the girls that he molested are thankful that you got him in the National Guard and away from any woman with a daughter that could fall for his smooth talking BS! The man was evil and I don't care if he was defending his country. To be honest he probably went in the Guard to avoid going to prison. The DA from Vancouver called my daughter and I and asked if we would testify if she needed us to because he had married another unsuspecting mother of a young girl and he molested her for 2 years. I bet he left a long line of girls in the Guard that he talked out of their uniform as well. The man was good looking and the biggest liar that I have ever known. He could make you believe anything. I know because I believed him. I had the misfortune of being married to him for 10 years. People, pay attention, not even his death could make up for the things that he has done to the young girls that he hurt. Stop trying to make him out a hero. He was nothing but a pretty piece of crap! I would like to thank Paul and Julie and everyone else that know the truth. And thank you Julie, if not for you I would never have known what he was doing and my daughter would have gone through more than she did.

This is a sad time for those of us that took the time to know Sgt. Earl Werner. He was my baby brother. Unfortunately many of those nasty comments have come from my other siblings and family members. Earl has fought this battle all of his life. I am sorry. All I can say is Earl was hated and tormented by a few, and loved by hundreds of good men and women that knew him well. I applaud your paper for having the integrity to stop the hate and ignorance of those few that are simply trying to draw attention to themselves instead of allowing Sgt. Earl Werner a true friend, brother and yes a hero to rest in peace.

Scott...when exsctly did Werner defend your family? From whom or what did he defend your family? Who attacked you and your family? BS is cheap these days....This guy did not defend ANYTHING. I offer my condolences to the family and friends of SGT Werner - he volunteered, he picked up a weapon, and he stood out there to defend my family and I and those can't (or don't see the need to) defend themselves.

SGT Werner was one of the best SGT's I have had the privilidge to serve with. He was dedicated to his job and went out of his way to help soldiers. He was a great asset to morale and always fun to be around. When the stuff hit the fan, SGT Werner was right there fighting with you, helping you get through the task at hand. He laughed with the soldiers. He always made tough times easier to deal with. It was an honor to have served with him. His memory will live on through the hearts and minds of the soldiers lifes he changed through his pride to serve his country.

why can't people speak the truth about a person just because said person is dead does not mean he is now a good person. I believe if a person needs to vent because of a wrong that was done to them from said person, and all you allow to be printed is that he is a hero then your paper is only allowing lies to be printed about said person.

I do not, and will never, say anything negative about our troops. They do what they are told, and should be respected for that. I will tho, speak out against those who give the orders.
