(WALTON, Ore.) - Oregon State Police troopers are investigating Sunday morning's fatal traffic crash on Highway 126 west of Walton that resulted in the death of one person and injuries to four others. The names are not available for release at this time. Preliminary information from OSP Sergeant Ron Martin indicates that this morning at approximately 9:50 a.m. a passenger car driven by the adult female victim was westbound on Highway 126 near milepost 30 when, for an unknown reason, it crossed the center line and sideswiped an eastbound 2007 Dodge pickup with five occupants. "After colliding with the pickup, the car continued into the eastbound lane and crashed head-on with an eastbound 2003 Dodge Durango with four occupants," Martin said. "The car's female driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. She was using safety restraints and the car's airbags deployed. Her name is withheld pending next of kin notification." He says the four occupants of the Dodge Durango, two adults and two children, were transported by ambulance to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend with non-life threatening injuries. Their names are not available at this time. The five occupants of the Dodge pickup, three adults and two children, were not injured. OSP troopers from the Springfield and Florence offices are continuing the investigation. Lane County Fire District, Eugene Fire & Rescue, and ODOT assisted at the scene. ODOT had a detour established during the near 6 hour highway closure.
