(Woodburn, Oregon) - Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Saturday night's fatal pedestrian-involved traffic crash along Highway 99E just south of Woodburn. The victim's name and residence information is being withheld while troopers try to locate and notify next of kin. According to OSP Sergeant Corey Simons, on April 16, 2011 at approximately 8:27 p.m. a witness driving southbound on Highway 99E near milepost 33 braked to avoid a pedestrian in a dark, unlit area who ran across the highway toward the west side shoulder. A 2005 Dodge Neon driven by Robert Moore, age 56, from Woodburn, was following behind the witness and swerved toward the highway shoulder to avoid a rear-end collision and struck the pedestrian. LifeFlight responded, but the 56-year white female pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene. Moore was not injured. OSP troopers from the Salem Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Woodburn Police Department, Woodburn Fire Department, and ODOT assisted at the scene. Highway 99E was closed at the scene for about 3 hours. There is no designated crosswalk where the collision took place.
