(SALEM) - Salem Fire Department crews were alerted to a commercial fire Friday afternoon at Airport Steel, located at 2611 22nd Street SE. Workers there reported smoke coming from the 1970's trailer that was used as an office. Fire Department Spkesman Bill Holmstrom says that when firefighters arrived on scene, they discovered black smoke coming from the structure.

Due to a large amount of combustibles inside and outside the trailer the fire spread quickly throughout the structure, however firefighters knocked down and extinguished the fire within the first 15-minutes of arrival. The cause of the fire was determined to be a portable heater which ignited nearby combustibles. The loss is estimated at $17,000 ($5,000 Structure & $12,000 Contents).
