Keizer Stand Off Ends in Arrest

By 4:00 PM the man surrendered to police and was taken to Salem Hospital for a mental evaluation.

(Keizer) - Keizer Police took a 51-year old man into custody after a five-hour standoff today. A neighbor who called police says the man served as a Navy SEAL in the Vietnam War.

The incident began around 11:00 in the morning. The neighbor who called police said the man was suicidal and she was concerned for his safety.

It happened at the New Heritage Village apartments in Keizer, in the 5000 block of 10th Avenue NE.

Keizer Police say they called the Salem Police SWAT Team out to assist them in establishing a perimeter and evacuating nearby residents.

By 4:00 PM the man surrendered to police and was taken to Salem Hospital for a mental evaluation. His name was unavailable at the time of this report.
