Weather Forecast for Lincoln City
Evergreen forests, broad sandy beaches, clean air, the magnificent Pacific Ocean and a lake at its back door Lincoln City has it all. Folks from around the country and the world return year after year to soak up the Lincoln City experience. Population:
7,437 at the 2000 census. History:
Lincoln City was created after a vote on December 8, 1964 to unite the cities of Oceanlake, Delake and Taft with the unincorporated communities of Cutler City and Nelscott. These were adjacent communities along U.S. Route 101, which serves as Lincoln City's main street, and the highway traffic creating added congestion has been a recent problem.
In 1995 the Confederated Tribes of Siletz opened Chinook Winds Casino at the northern end of the city on a piece of property overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Although at first opposed by the local citizens, it provided a boost to the local economy, which is primarily based on tourism, by providing a year-around demand for hotel rooms.
