Salem-News.com staff
And why should it matter if Mariah had a little too much champagne?
(SALEM, Ore.) -
A recent award acceptance speech by pop queen turned actress Mariah Carey, might be the most memorable aspect of a recent Palm Springs film festival.
The performer might have been a little tipsy when she was escorted onto the stage at the Palm Springs International Film Festival. It made for a humorous moment that was the first thing to hit YouTube, as Sean Penn predicted later that evening from the stage.

Tim King Salem-News.com
Come on fathers, don't hesitate, Send 'em off before it's too late. Be the first one on your block To have your kid come home in a box...
(SALEM, Ore.) -
On December 1st I told our viewers about a new Afghan War protest song under production, based on the catchy lyrics of the Country Joe McDonald song, Vietnam Rag: "Feels Like I'm Fixing to Die" - made famous during Woodstock.
A friend and contact, Bruce Arnold, had written the new verses based on the famous 60's tune that came to represent a war and the movement that eventually rose against it, hoping that the idea might still hold strength.

When Did I Become the Senior Dad?
A Dad’s Point-of-View, by Bruce Sallan Salem-News.com
Now that I am the senior dad in the family, I'll reinforce tradition, establish others, try and be the best patriarchal figure I can be for my sons and my lovely bride of just one year
(AGOURA HILLS, Calif.) -
While walking with a friend the day after Thanksgiving, we shared our respective holiday experiences and noted that we were both now the senior dads--the main paternal figure in our respective families.
We laughed together, but it was a moment of melancholy and reflection, both of which were feelings I had this Thanksgiving.

Much Ado About Nothing
Daniel Johnson Salem-News.com
Nothing can really be everything.
(CALGARY, Alberta) -
We were sitting on a park bench watching the joggers go by when my friend remarked: “You know, all these people who jog, go to the gym, eat granola, don’t drink and don’t smoke, are going to be mighty embarrassed one day when they are lying in a hospital bed dying of nothing in particular.”
After I finished laughing, I was intrigued by the topic of “nothing” and decided to check (through the wonder of computer technology) my research notes, only to discover that “nothing” covers “everything”.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) -
Sometimes I just need to take a break from all the memorial pictures and do something else. I did that over the weekend, and had a really good time seeing old friends and listening to music that is tied to the fabric of this country.
Most of the time when I meet Patriot Guard Riders out on missions to honor our and escort our country's heroes, my contact is limited during the duration of the mission and then sometimes I get to meet some outside of that.

The Rat Pack is Back...in Eugene!
Salem-News.com
Get to the Hult this weekend, because Broadway is being escorted in by the Rat Pack.
(EUGENE, Ore.) -
A spirited tribute to the Rat Pack is part of the Broadway in Eugene 2009-2010 Season, coming to The Hult Center for the Performing Arts, Friday and Saturday evenings, October 16-17, 2009.
The Rat Pack Is Back recreates one of the famous "Summit At The Sands" hotel shows when the swingin', ring-a-ding group known as the "Rat Pack" was creating hipster legend with a free-wheeling, no-holds-barred nightclub act starring Vegas' four favorite sons: Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin and Joey Bishop.

Not Too Old for Rock and Roll
A Dad’s Point-of-View, by Bruce Sallan Salem-News.com
Maybe the music has changed, but I don’t think growing up is any different today.
(SAN FRANCISCO) -
I just returned from one of the best three-day trip of my parenting life. My son, Will, not yet 16, and two of his female friends and I drove to San Francisco to attend the Outside Lands Music Festival.
It’s an all-day late-into-the-night, music festival on the Polo Fields at Golden Gate Park. There are multiple acts performing simultaneously on several stages throughout the festival grounds.
