Nelscott Classic Surf Contest: Great Conditions and 25+ Foot Waves

(LINCOLN CITY, Ore.) - 2009 Nelscott Classic Surf Contest in Lincoln City, Oregon The Nelscott Reef in Lincoln City was going off Thursday, once again providing 25+ foot waves for the annual surf contest known as the Nelscott Reef Tow-In Classic, the fifth annual event.

Competitors like Russel Smith of Santa Cruz, say the event was another ideal day for the top ranked professional surfers in the world who travel here each year to compete, "Oh today's been great you know, not too much wind, the water's not terribly cold and yeah, it's going really well."

Big Wave Surfing Contest in Lincoln City Thursday

The forecast calls for huge waves at the Nelscott Reef Tow In Classic.

(LINCOLN CITY, Ore.) - Nelscott Classic surf contest Organizers say the 2009 Nelscott Reef Tow In Classic and Big Wave Paddle In surf contest has a green light, and will be held Thursday, 22 October.

The event draws some of the biggest names in surfing to Lincoln City, to ride one of the largest reef waves in the world.

Salem Man Dies in Crash on Oregon Highway 18 (PHOTOS)

The crash happened east of Highway 101 on the mountainous coastal route.

(ROSE LODGE, Ore.) - Fatal crash on Hwy 18 in Rose Lodge, Oregon 8-27-09 State Police troopers are continuing the investigation into Wednesday afternoon's fatal traffic crash on Highway 18 in the Rose Lodge area that resulted in the death of a Salem man and injuries to his wife.

The crash happened Wednesday at approximately 1:10 p.m. when a 1998 Ford Mustang turned directly in front of an eastbound 1996 Peterbuilt flatbed truck pulling a small trailer.

Several Hurt in Highway 18 Van Duzer Corridor Crash

The highway was blocked for four hours.

(LINCOLN CITY, Ore.) - Seven people were injured, two seriously, in a four-vehicle traffic crash Saturday morning on Highway 18 west of the Van Duzer Corridor in Lincoln County.

Oregon State Police Sergeant Justin McGladrey says Saturday at approximately 12:20 p.m. a 1998 Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by 44-year old David Carl Josephson of Yacolt, Washington, was stopped behind a group of traffic westbound on Highway 18 near milepost 7 due to an earlier crash about three miles west.

Oregon Highway 18 Blocked Due to Injury Crash

The often busy coastal route closes down on one of the biggest tourism days of the year.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Crash investigation Oregon State Police say they are on the scene of a multiple vehicle crash on Highway 18 just west of Van Duzer Corridor.

The wreck near milepost 8 has temporarily closed the Corridor as emergency crews, police and other crash responders make their way to the scene.

Highway 18 is a mostly rural highway that spans from the Willamette Valley in McMinnville, to the coastal town of Lincoln City and other points north and south.

(LINCOLN CITY, Ore.) - Safari Town Surf Shop Life can come about full circle sometimes, and I consider that when I think of my longtime friends from the beach, Tony and Jeanne Gile. Their business, Safari Town Surf Shop in Lincoln City is celebrating its 20-year anniversary.

I am heartened that Oregon so completely accepted the sport of surfing in recent years. I'm not surprised by Tony's success, and I am glad that his shop has been one of the driving forces making surfing a regular everyday part of Oregon's beach culture.

Fatal Crash on Highway 18 Halts Traffic for Hours

Police Investigate Fatal Traffic Crash Highway 18 east of Highway 101

(LINCOLN CITY, Ore.) - Fatal crash near Lincoln City, Oregon 4-4-09 Oregon State Police and the Lincoln County interagency major crash team are continuing the investigation of Saturday afternoon's fatal traffic crash on Highway 18 east of Highway 101.

Troopers say a Langlois-area man died and five others received minor injuries in the crash. The highway re-opened 3 1/2 hours after it happened.

Oregon Sees Four Fatal Crashes Saturday

The weather brings residents outdoors in droves; but this sunny day is shadowed by multiple fatal crashes on Oregon's roads.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Fatal crash investigation Oregon State Police are on the scene of a fatal crash on Highway 99 near Savage Rapids Dam; at 6:45 p.m. Saturday they responded to a fatal traffic crash happened Highway 38 between Scottsburg and Elkton, involving a single motorcycle.

State troopers were called to the scene of a fatal crash at 4:45 p.m. on Highway 18, near milepost 5 in Lincoln County. Before that, they responded to a fatal traffic crash on Highway 101 south of Bandon.

FBI Looks for Help in Identifying `Wrangler Bandit` (PHOTOS)

FBI Investigators believe this may be the same woman who robbed the Washington Federal Savings Bank on September 2nd, 2008, in Lincoln City.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Photos of the bank robbery suspect The FBI is releasing photos of a female bank robber and the car she was believed to be driving in the hope that the public can help identify her.

Investigators have dubbed her the "Wrangler Bandit" because a green Jeep Wrangler was seen leaving the scene. It is a 1997 – 2006 JT Model Wrangler with distinctive five-star chrome wheels and the word “Wrangler” painted alongside the hood. It has a soft-style canopy.

Semi Truck Crash Spares Driver`s Life But Closes Coastal Highway (PHOTO SERIES)

Investigators do not believe the driver was using safety restraints at the time of the crash. OSP troopers from the Newport Area Command office are continuing the investigation.

(OTIS, Ore.) - Crash 3-5-09 on Highway 18 near Lincoln City, Oregon Police say a Klamath Falls-area man received non-life threatening injuries Thursday morning when he lost control of his commercial vehicle and crashed on Highway 18 east of Lincoln City.

Highway 18 was closed at the crash location and re-opened by mid-afternoon. It's nothing new on this winding Oregon coast highway; and they often lock traffic and routes around Lincoln City down tight.

"Speed is a possible contributing factor," an Oregon State Police investigator said.
