National Average Ticks Up while West Coast Prices Ease

But Oregon's Average is Still Fifth Most Expensive in the Country for Fifth Consecutive Week
(PORTLAND, Ore.) -
The national average for regular unleaded is creeping up, while pump prices on the West Coast continue to slip. The national average gains two cents this week to $2.48, while Oregon's average drops a nickel to $2.73.
AAA Oregon Public Affairs Director Marie Dodds says it's the first time since early August we've seen the national average go up.

Turner's Police Chief cites dangerous road as reason for too many crashes.
(TURNER, Ore.) -
The Turner Police Department and the Turner Rural Fire Protection District responded to another one car injury crash in Condon’s Corners which is in the 6100 block of Turner Road SE.
This area is in between the City of Salem the City of Turner. According to Chief Gary Will of the Turner Police Department, the Turner Police receive complaints about drivers in these corners constantly.

Falling Pump Prices on West Coast Mean Little for Oregonians

Gas prices are finally easing on the west coast, but California, Washington and Oregon all rank in the top five most expensive states for gas for the second week in a row.
(PORTLAND, Ore.) -
Gas prices on the West Coast are finally easing a bit, Oregon AAA says. The state's average for regular unleaded falls a penny this week to $2.88 while the national average loses two cents to $2.54.
One factor impacting gas prices in the west and elsewhere is the annual conversion from summer blended fuels to winter blends, which can slow refinery production and cause some regional price spikes.

Eugene Man Arrested Hiding in Attic After Police Chase

The man was arrested for Felony Attempt to Elude in a Vehicle and Misdemeanor Attempt to Elude on Foot.
(EUGENE, Ore.) -
Deputies in Lane County say a Eugene man was arrested Monday morning, after attempting to elude police officers from several agencies in the Eugene area.
The incident reportedly ended after the man abandoned his car and fled into his sister's residence, where a trooper and deputy convinced him to surrender without further incident.

Oregon Motorcycle Operator Dies from Injuries Sustained in Monday Crash

The crash happened Monday on Belt Line Road north of Eugene.
(EUGENE, Ore.) -
A Springfield-area motorcyclist who was seriously injured Monday afternoon in a motorcycle crash, died early Wednesday morning at an area hospital. The crash happened police say, when the rider lost control of his motorcycle and crashed on Belt Line Road north of Eugene.
Oregon State Police says 21-year old Timothy Russell Tull of Springfield was riding a 1997 Yamaha motorcycle September 14, 2009 at approximately 4:10 p.m. eastbound on Belt Line Road near milepost 6 when the crash occurred.

Cultural intolerance of American Muslims does not appear to be waning under the nation's new Presidency, as many activists like Nadia Sindi of Eugene had hoped.
The Council on Islamic Relations, CAIR and other agencies are noting a continuing lack of understanding of one of the world's fastest growing religions in the U.S. Sindi says she hopes an upcoming college class will spread the knowledge and, ultimately, the healing.

Gas Prices Hold Steady after Labor Day Weekend

OPEC Not Expected to Cut Production at its Wednesday Meeting.

Gas prices remain fairly stable this week with the Oregon average for regular unleaded holding steady at $2.82 and the national average dropping three cents to $2.58.
AAA Oregon Public Affairs Director Marie Dodds says, "We've seen a mixture of positive and negative economic news throughout the summer, and without a clear direction of where the economy might be headed, crude oil has spent much of the summer around $70 a barrel."

UO Will Confer More than 1,200 Degrees at Summer Commencement

Summer term's 1,052 degree candidates will receive 1,202 degrees and certificates.

More than 1,000 degree candidates are eligible to participate in the University of Oregon's 2009 summer commencement exercises at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 15.
Charles Martinez, vice president for Institutional Equity and Diversity, will speak to the graduates during the outdoor ceremony on the Memorial Quadrangle on the west edge of the University of Oregon campus. Tickets are not needed for the event.
