Cold Case Homicide Team in Multnomah County Has Big Plans

MCSO Cold Case Homicide Unit's work
(PORTLAND, Ore.) -
Last year Multnomah County swore in 8 retired MCSO investigators to open and review 35 unsolved ‘cold' homicide or suspicious death cases more than two years old.
All the cases were initially investigated by the sheriff's office but for myriad reasons did not result in the arrest of suspects.

Forensic Investigators Hope Facial Recreation From Human Skull Leads to ID

Clackamas County Sheriff's investigators seek public assistance with identification of missing woman.
(PORTLAND, Ore.) -
In August 1986, a human skull was discovered in the area of Still Creek Road on Mt. Hood. At the time, forensic investigators estimated this human skull may have been at this location for a considerably long period of time- potentially up to 10-years; possibly dating back to 1976.
In March 2008, Nici Vance, a forensic scientist with the Oregon State Police Forensic Crime Lab, in Portland, determined this skull is that of a young female; probably in her late teens or early twenties.

After many decades the story of Betty, someone she missed knowing by just a year, is an active part of Lela's life. And it was one year ago when Lela asked me if I would assist her in doing research on the long lost child, and possibly creating a television documentary.

The pain of losing a child never goes away. This case of ten-year-old Betty McCullough is a story passed on to family members since her disappearance in 1941.
Early morning, on June 21, 1941, little Betty woke up, slipped on a man’s shirt, put on her sister’s shoes, took a water bucket and quietly slipped by her two sleeping sisters. She was going to get water from the water pump outside. She was never seen again. No sign of her, no clues, nothing left behind.

Cold Case Squad investigators Seeking Man Who May Have Information on 80`s Homicide

The Marion County Sheriff`s Office Cold Case Squad is asking for the public`s help in locating a possible witness relating to an unsolved homicide investigation from the early 1980s.
The possible witness has been identified as Don Smith, who is believed to have resided at 1085 Madison Street NE, Salem, Oregon, during the early 1980s.

Internet users can now review cold cases being investigated by the Marion County Sheriff`s Department cold case squad.
The Sheriff`s Web site includes a link to the Cold Case Homicide Squad.
The Cold Case Squad is staffed by four detectives selected by Sheriff Raul Ramirez to review and investigate unsolved Marion County homicides.
The four investigators bring a combined total of more than 120 years of law enforcement experience to the squad.
