A man was medically evacuated from a fishing vessel near Umpqua River, Oregon, Saturday.
(NORTH BEND, Ore.) - The U.S. Coast Guard has released video of a rescue operation over the weekend near the Umpqua River on the Pacific Ocean off Oregon.
Coast Guard Group Air Station in North Bend, Oregon was notified around 11:00 PM Saturday, that a man aboard the 50-foot crabbing vessel Rose Marie, had a serious hand injury.
A Coast Guard HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew was launched to evacuate the man from the vessel.
The helicopter crew evacuated the injured crewman from the fishing vessel, and delivered him to a waiting ambulance that transferred him to Bay Area Hospital in North Bend.
This successful airlift took place January 3rd 2009, near the mouth of the Umpqua River.
The missions of Group/Air Station North Bend include maritime search and rescue, enforcement of laws and treaties, providing aids to navigation, and marine environmental protection.
In addition, the air station frequently assists Federal, state and county agencies by responding to calls for assistance with inland searches and medical evacuations of injured loggers.
