Oregon State Police say media reports helped locate the man's next of kin.

(MEDFORD, Ore.) - Police say a 61-year old man died Tuesday evening when he was struck by a vehicle on Highway 62 after reportedly walking into the vehicle's lane of travel.

"Following media reports earlier today with our plea to locate next of kin, Oregon State Police has been contacted by relatives and notification was completed," OSP Spokesman Lt. Gregg Hastings said.

According to Oregon State Police Sergeant Jeff Fitzgerald, on November 18, 2008 at approximately 6:30 p.m. a 2003 Chevrolet Impala driven by 51-year old Kathy Lynn Schaecher of Central Point, was eastbound on Highway 62 near Vilas Road outside the Medford city limits when she struck 61-year old Timothy Jay Frizzell as he was walking across the roadway.

Mr. Frizzell was pronounced dead at the scene. He may be a transient with a last recorded address in Vancouver, Washington.

Oregon State Police thanks the media for their help in locating next of kin. Contact was made from relatives on central Oregon coast and Portland area.

Hastings explains that this section of Highway 62 is a four lane roadway with two eastbound and two westbound lanes of travel divided by a continuous left turn lane. Conditions were dark with areas of fog along the roadway.

OSP troopers from the Central Point and Grants Pass Area Command are continuing the investigation. Jackson County Sheriff's Department, Jackson County Fire District 3, ODOT and the Jackson County District Attorney's Office assisted at the scene.
