The body turned out to be that of a local man who probably took his own life.
(DEPOE BAY, Ore.) - The body of a man found last Saturday in the Pacific Ocean south of Rocky Creek State Scenic Viewpoint in Lincoln County has been positively identified as 54-year old Larry Allen Mott of Depoe Bay.
Mr. Mott was originally reported to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office as a missing/endangered person on May 28th as he had apparent suicidal tendencies. There are no signs of foul play, investigators with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office report.
According to the Lincoln County Medical Examiner, Dr. Marilyn Fraser, Larry Mott died as a result of asphyxiation due to drowning.
His body was found Saturday at 1:22 PM by a commercial sea urchin diver in about 40 feet of water 1/2 mile south of Rocky Creek State Scenic Viewpoint in Lincoln County.
A Tillamook County Sheriff's Office Dive Team responded to the scene, and with the assistance of the US Coast Guard Station Depoe Bay his body was recovered but his identity was unknown until confirmed by the medical examiner.
