(SALEM, Ore. ) - An Albany man was arrested for armed robbery and related crimes following an incident in Newberg late Sunday afternoon.
The robbery was followed by a police chase involving five area law enforcement agencies and ended in Salem. Caleb Verne Peter Gooding, 24, was arrested following the reported armed robbery at the Newberg Food Mart, 1012 E. First Street.
Dispatchers from the Newberg-Dundee 9-1-1 Communications Center gathered enough information and descriptions of the suspect and pickup, within a few minutes' time, a Newberg-Dundee officer found the pickup southbound on Hwy 219 near McKay Road.
When the officer signaled the pickup to stop, the driver attempted to elude the officer by continuing through St. Paul, and south on River Road to Keizer. After driving to Keizer's north side, the driver headed back to Brooklake Road and eventually to Interstate 5, southbound.

Through the course of the elude, four other police agencies assisted in the apprehension and arrest. Marion County Sheriff's deputies set up several spike strip sites along River Road and near Keizer. Officers from the Keizer Police Department assisted as the elude entered their city. Troopers from the Oregon State Police and Salem Police Department assisted as the pickup headed south on I-5 and into Salem.
Gooding is held at the Yamhill County Corrections Facility, McMinnville, for $175,000 bail. He is charged with first degree armed robbery, felon in possession of a firearm, attempt to elude/felony, obliterating or change of an identification number on a firearm, reckless driving and menacing.
