Anthrax Scare Leads to Closure of Courthouse in Albany, Oregon

Members of the FBI, Department of Homeland Security, Oregon Army National Guard, and the Linn-Benton Haz-Mat team are on scene assisting with the search and investigation.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - The Linn County Courthouse in Albany has been closed due to security concerns after envelopes were discovered this morning threatening anthrax contamination, according to Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller.

He says that at around 6:17 AM this morning, employees opening the courthouse found a note and envelopes near an outside entry door.

"The note indicated that anthrax was in envelopes in the courthouse. At this time two have been found, both near the door where the note was left," Mueller said.

Linn County Sheriff's deputies have moved into the area to close off access to the courthouse.

Members of the FBI, Department of Homeland Security, Oregon Army National Guard, and the Linn-Benton Haz-Mat team are on scene assisting with the search and investigation.

Mueller says the courthouse will remain closed until further notice.
