(SCIO, Ore.) - Linn County Sheriff's deputies arrested 27-year old Ronald Allen McLaughlin of Scio today, naming him as the suspect in a robbery and burglary that was reported Friday on Crabtree Drive near Crabtree.
Sheriff Tim Mueller says that around 5:04 AM Friday morning, Linn County Sheriff’s Office dispatchers received a report that a woman at that address had discovered a man, dressed in black, in the kitchen of her home, going through her purse.
"The man told her he had wrecked his truck and needed help. The man then left the house and the woman’s husband tackled him but the suspect was able to escape. No weapons were used during the incident."
Deputies responded and searched for the suspect and found a cell phone they determined belonged to the suspect. Mueller says that using evidence located at the scene, deputies developed several persons of interest in the case and one vehicle possibly associated with the crime. The vehicle had been crashed on Kelly Road near Scio, sometime prior to the burglary.
Ronald McLaughlin of Scio was arrested at 9:48 AM this morning at a residence where he had been staying on Crackerneck Drive in Scio.
McLaughlin was arrested on outstanding warrants for Assault, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Menacing, Criminal Trespass, a Parole Violation and a Marion County warrant for possession of methamphetamine and was also charged with first degree burglary and third degree robbery.
He is lodged in the Linn County Jail with a total bail of $108,620.00.
