The approximately 66 pounds of cocaine has an estimated value of $600,000.
(SALEM, Ore. ) - One person was arrested Saturday afternoon when an Oregon State Police trooper allegedly discovered 31 kilos of cocaine concealed in a sport utility vehicle during a traffic stop on Interstate 5 in the Salem area. Additional details are withheld due to an ongoing investigation and the information was released Monday.
An OSP trooper on patrol stopped a 2005 Nissan Armada sport utility vehicle with out-of-state license plates Saturday afternoon at approximately 12:20 PM, OSP Spokesman Greg Hastings said.
The vehicle was northbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 253 when the trooper pulled it over for speed and lane change violations.
"During contact with the lone occupant, a 26-year old male, the trooper subsequently found 31 kilos of cocaine in a false compartment located in the rear cargo area. The approximately 66 pounds of cocaine has an estimated value of $600,000."
Hastings says the driver was taken into custody on numerous felony drug-related charges. His identity is withheld at this time because it may compromise an ongoing investigation by OSP Drug Enforcement Section detectives. The Oregon State Police did not specify what state the vehicle was from.
