(NEW BLOOMFIELD, Mo) - Police in Missouri say a man armed with a chain saw and knife went on a violent rampage at a mid-Missouri homeless shelter on Saturday at the Mid-America Care Center near New Bloomfield, about 120 miles west of St. Louis.
28-year-old Matthew Watkins is accused of injuring four people. Police said one man's throat was slashed, another was cut in the abdomen with the chain saw. Both are in critical but stable condition. While two others suffered minor injuries.
Watkins was charged with four counts of assault and armed criminal action, and is being held at the Callaway County Jail on $600,000 bond.
