(KARACHI, Pakistan) - The former Pakistan Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutto, has ended eight years of self-imposed exile by returning to Pakistan today. But a two bombs ripped through Benazir Bhutto's convoy today, more than 20 people were killed, news sources report.
Bhutto's return to Pakistan marks the decline of President-elect Pervez Musharraf's power as Chief of Army Staff, and has been received very poorly by Taliban fighters and other anti-Coalition militia groups fighting in the Mid-East, and a battle for control of Pakistan's restive North and South Waziristan is set to commence.
According to a top Pakistani security official who spoke to Asia Times Online, "television channels said Bhutto was safe and had left the truck that had been transporting her through roads thronged by hundreds of thousands of people."
Pakistan has been the main supplier of militants fighting in Afghanistan. Most were raised in Pakistan by families who fled Afghanistan during the Soviet invasion in the 1980's when 1.5 million Afghans were killed.
American and Coalition soldiers in Afghanistan deal with random attacks from the Pakistan border every single day. Pakistan has done little to stem the tide of fighters who drive open roads between Pakistan and the terrorist positions in Afghanistan.
