Oregon Guard F-15 Pilot's Body Recovered After Crash

The pilot was flying a single seat F-15.

(CANNON BEACH, Ore.) - The U.S. Coast Guard has recovered the remains of the pilot from the F-15 jet fighter that crashed in the ocean approximately 35 nautical miles west of Cannon Beach.

Next of kin notifications are being made. The accident is currently under investigation by an interim Air Force Safety Board.

At the time of the accident, 4 F-15 Eagles and 4 F/A-18 Hornets were on a training mission off the Oregon coast. The F/A-18's are from a US Marine Corp Reserve F/A-18 unit out Fort Worth, Texas. Fighters from the Oregon Guard have been training with them for the past two-weeks.

No further details are being released at this time. A member of the 142nd Fighter Wing told Salem-News.com that all thoughts are presently with the family of the deceased aviator.
