(SALEM) - Salem firefighters responded to an Structure Fire at 2964 Logan Court NE Monday afternoon at 3:30 PM.
The occupant, Erin Twing, was cooking when the oil she was using ignited. The fire quickly spread to the oil jug that was sitting on the counter next to the stove.
All 5 people, 2 adults and 3 kids, got out safely without injuries. Twing did indicate that their smoke detector did operate.
When firefighters arrived on scene, Captain Mike Farmer reported that he could see smoke coming from the front door and upper window of this two story single-family dwelling.
Fire Department Spokesman Bill Holmstrom says firefighters made entry inside the structure through the front door.
They faced heavy amount of fire in the kitchen. They were able to knock down the fire stopping the spread to other portions of the home. Firefighters from a Ladder Company set up ventilation to remove smoke from the home.
Holmstrom says the fire was contained to the room of origin, but there was smoke damage throughout the residence.
