Salem Police Department Begins Business E-Watch Program

The program will focus on crimes and tips that directly relate to local businesses.

(SALEM) - The Salem Police Department is starting a new electronic information sharing system with local businesses called "Business E-watch".

The program is similar to an existing program called "Crimenet".

Crimenet sends out bi-weekly crime prevention tips to citizens who are signed up.

The message is received automatically by the registrants once signed up and provides crime trends, tips, and updates on local police activities and events.

Business E-watch will work very similarly, but will focus on those crimes and tips that directly relate to local businesses. For example, if there are a string of local robberies or burglaries, the police department can send out suspect descriptions or other information to be on the look out for.

If there are local events that can affect businesses, such as major street closures due to police activity we can send this information via Business E-watch as well.

To sign up for Business E-watch, go to the City of Salem website at www.cityofsalem.net, click on the Police Department, then you will find Business E-watch under Crime Prevention. Simply click on the icon and submit your email address and wait to receive business crime prevention tips.

For more information about preventing crime, or submitting business crime tips, contact the Salem Police Department’s Crime Prevention Unit at (503) 588-6175.
