Police say a man's attempt to fake his identity came up one number short.
(SALEM) - Police say you could call it an extreme lie, or a lie about an extremity, it just depends on how you look at it.
Meth suspect Kenneth McPherson won't be pointing fingers ar anyone for a while, but if he does decide to finger somebody, he can use any one of his ten digits in the process, unlike his brother who he allegedly tried to impersonate, who is down by one, finger that is.
The police records division did their jobs well, according to Salem Police Lt. Steve Bellshaw. On Tuesday, officers from the Salem Police Drug Activity Response Team responded to 476 Vista Av. SE on a complaint of suspicious activity.
Bellshaw says officers searched the residence and found 16.5 grams of methamphetamine, heroin residue, scales, packaging materials, and user materials.
Kenneth McPherson was charged with Giving False Information to a Police Officer. Bellshaw says that when asked his identity, McPherson used his brother's name and date of birth. A check of the brother's criminal history revealed he only had 9 fingers.
Officers say they quickly verified that the person they had in custody was in possession of all 10 of his fingers.
Bellshaw says that when he was confronted over the "extra finger", McPherson gave up his true identity and the fact he had four warrants for his arrest, all previous drug related charges.
In addition eo McPherson, two other people were present and arrested at the scene.
47-year old Bruce Lane Parker was arrested for Unlawful Possession of Heroin, Unlawful Delivery of Methamphetamine, Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine, Endangering the Welfare of a Minor and Maintaining a residence where drugs are used or sold.
31-year old Serena Ruth Bacon was arrested for Unlawful Possession of Heroin, Unlawful Delivery of Methamphetamine, Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine, Endangering the Welfare of a Minor and Maintaining a residence where drugs are used or sold.
46-year old Kenneth Shannon McPherson was arrested for Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine, Giving False Information to a Police Officer, and four existing warrants.
Serena Bacon's nine year old daughter was taken into protective custody.
