OSP troopers from the Astoria Area Command office and OSP collision reconstructionists are continuing the investigation.
(CANNON BEACH, Ore.) - Police say one person died and four others were injured Wednesday evening in a two vehicle head-on crash on Highway 101 about one mile north of the Arch Cape tunnel south of Cannon Beach.
Oregon State Police troopers are continuing the investigation and the highway may be re-opened by midnight. All names will be released Thursday morning.
Preliminary information indicates that Wednesday night arund 7:30 p.m. a 1994 Volvo four-door driven by a 73-year old male was northbound on Highway 101 near milepost 35 when, for an unknown reason, it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a southbound 2009 Chevrolet Avalanche pickup with two occupants.
Investigators say the Volvo's driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. His two female adult passengers were transported by ambulance to Seaside Providence Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The Chevrolet's male adult driver and female adult passenger were transported by ambulance to Columbia Memorial Hospital. The driver was seriously injured and passenger had non-life threatening injuries.
OSP troopers from the Astoria Area Command office and OSP collision reconstructionists are continuing the investigation.
Cannon Beach Fire and Police Departments, Medix ambulance and ODOT assisted at the scene.
