(Mcallen, Texas) - More than $1.6 million worth of marijuana was confiscated by U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the McAllen Station in multiple seizures Thursday.

The largest of the seizures occurred that night when agents working in Abram, Texas, found nearly 700 pounds of marijuana, with a value of more than $540,000, scattered throughout the brush.

In a separate incident agents saw a group of people carrying bundles of marijuana north from the Rio Grande in Hidalgo, Texas. The agents apprehended two people and found more than 460 pounds of marijuana, with a value exceeding $370,000. The rest of the group was seen crossing the river back into Mexico.

Several more seizures pushed the station’s total amount of marijuana confiscated for the day to more than 2,000 pounds. The marijuana was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
